The Gin Cocktail of the Dead - Corpse Reviver No. 2

If you've had too much to drink the night before, you can try a Corpse Reviver the next morning. The gin cocktail is not only said to bring the dead back to life, but also to help you somehow get out of bed with a skull. This seems to have been common practice in the USA in the 19th century, as there was a whole category of drinks known as revivers or ups at the time. These mixed drinks were often consumed in the morning to beat the hangover. Certainly helpful in the short term, but not recommended in the medium to long term!

Today, nothing reminds us of these morning drinks. They were not only popular as gin cocktails, but brandy and whisky were also used. Unfortunately, the cocktails largely disappeared from the consciousness of bartenders in the 1980s. With the Corpse Reviver No. 2, which was recently rediscovered, the return to the classics is picking up speed again. Harry Craddock immortalised two Corpse Revivers in his classic Savoy Cocktail Book, and the drinks have resurfaced as part of the cocktail renaissance. Craddock's recipe calls for Kina Lillet, but unfortunately this is no longer available. Instead, Cocchi Americano is a good choice.
