Gin Basil Smash
It was only in 2008 that Jörg Meyer from Le Lion in Hamburg created his legendary Gin Basil Smash drink. Today, it is already considered one of the contemporary classics around the globe. The drink is a further development of the cocktail category of Smashes, which have been mixed for a good 150 years. In recent years, they have fallen somewhat out of favour. But at the latest since Jörg's revival, they are enjoying great popularity. Smashes are relatively simple: spirit, lemon juice, sugar, and mint. The best-known example is the Whiskey Smash.
What was innovative about Jörg Meyer's smash was the combination of Gin and basil. This brilliant idea was soon celebrated all over the world. The Gin Basil Smash quickly gained fame through the internet. Anyone who wants to drink a Gin Basil Smash today can order the drink in any good bar in the world. Whether in Sydney, Cape Town or Los Angeles.
