Martini cocktail

The Martini cocktail is one of the great mixed drinks at the bar. It has been mixed for more than 100 years. It is difficult to say exactly when the Martini cocktail was created. It must have been sometime in the second half of the 19th century when the first Martini cocktail was prepared. There are many legends that try to pinpoint the origin of the drink.

The Martinez cocktail is often referred to as the predecessor of the Martini. The Martinez consists of gin, vermouth, orange bitters and maraschino. Other cocktails such as the plain or fancy cocktail are also associated with the creation of the martini. What all these cocktails have in common is the mixture of gin and vermouth. What distinguishes them from the martini, however, is a much more relaxed ratio of gin and vermouth. Even in the early years of the martini, gin was mixed in equal parts with vermouth. However, this changed steadily over the next few years.

Today, a martini is mixed in a ratio of six or seven parts gin to one part vermouth. Some people enjoy their Martini with an even lower proportion of vermouth. What is certain is that the Martini represents the consistent and uncompromising further development of the gin and vermouth cocktail. This is why the name Dry Martini is often used today. Because the drink is simply served extremely dry.

Many celebrities have helped the cocktail achieve unforgettable fame. Winston Churchill, Ernest Hemingway, Herald Ford and Alfred Hitchcock loved the strong drink from the small glass.
