Negroni: The classic among Italian aperitif drinks
The Negroni has been one of the all-time greats of the bar world for many years. The genius of this drink is its simplicity and that it can be the perfect Negroni recipe can also be mixed very easily at home.
The „three-piece suit“, now over 100 years old, can be traced back to an Italian playboy and count. For a good 200 years, Italians have loved their aperitif. Americano – a mixture of Campari and sweet red vermouth. Count Negroni also greatly appreciated this drink. But one day, the light mixture was too weak for him: he asked his bartender in Florence for an Americano with more „power“. The bartender then supplemented the recipe with a generous portion of gin. That was the birth of the now world-famous Negroni.
The Perfect Negroni Recipe: The Right Balance
A true Negroni captivates with its simplicity. What's important is the Negroni ingredients above all the 1:1:1 ratio, to maintain the balance between bitterness, sweetness, and the juniper note of the gin.
The Negroni ingredients at a glance:
- 3 cl London Dry Gin (for the necessary structure and juniper aroma)
- 3 cl Campari (the indispensable Italian bitter)
- 3 cl Red Vermouth (Sweet and spicy)
Preparation:
Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass with plenty of ice until well-chilled. Then strain into a tumbler filled with fresh ice. Classically, it is garnished with a wide Orange zest, whose essential oils are sprayed over the drink.
Pro tip: A Negroni is best enjoyed slowly, as the ice melts slightly and the bold flavours meld gently.
