Boulevardier Cocktail
The Boulevardier Cocktail is the little brother of the Negroni Cocktail. As the Negroni carved out a significant place among the most important classics over the past 20 years, the Boulevardier Cocktail also benefited from it. Even though the Boulevardier Cocktail is much more than just a Negroni with Bourbon instead of Gin. It is not possible to say with certainty which cocktail was derived from the other, or whether the two drinks originated independently of each other.
The drinks were created at almost the same time. The Boulevardier Cocktail first appeared in 1927. Its creation is closely linked to Harry's New York Bar in Paris. Erskine Gwynne was responsible for the cocktail. He published the magazine “The Boulevardier” in Paris in the 1920s and 1930s. The cocktail is attributed to him. After a brief period of popularity at its inception, the cocktail quickly disappeared from view again. It's only been just over ten years since bartenders and authors have once again paid attention to this Prohibition drink from Europe.
