Last Word
The Last Word Cocktail had disappeared from the collective memory of bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts for a good 50 years. It was rediscovered in 2004 by Murray Stenson from Seattle. The likeable barman was one of the pioneers of the internet-driven cocktail renaissance in the early 2000s. He found the gin cocktail in a cocktail book entitled Bottoms Up! by Ted Saucier. The Last Word Cocktail is a classic Prohibition drink from the 1920s. It was probably created during this period. It then disappears until Ted Saucier records it in his book. But even after that, it disappears again for 50 years.
Since the drink has found a certain worldwide following through the internet, it is sure to stay with us for decades to come. Today, the Last Word cocktail is one of the extended standards of an experienced bartender. Not just because many bartenders adore Chartreuse and because the drink is a massive booster.
